Page 24, Chapter 9

Remember they were trying to do this back at the verrrryyyy start of the arc? Nancy knows a bit more about SHELL machinery than they do.

By the way, due to circumstances I have lost my job. I think I will be okay but just in case I am offering commissions in anticipation of losing my main source of income. If you’d like to pay me to draw you something, now is basically the perfect time. You can read more about the situation and learn how to contact me here. Thanks!

    Fiiiiiiiirst

… I wonder what would happen if sombody’s appendix was targeted. Would they get a monster whos only power was the ability to be useless?

    • Sassafras says:

Hair is fairly useless as far as important functions go, but Kera is very powerful. An appendix monster might surprise us. ;3

    • Frelance says:

Appendix isn’t useless! it’s a hotel for crucial bacteria, so that in the case of various distresses, your digestive tract can just flush itself completely and rebuild from that stock. Recovering from, like, dysentery would be super hard without it. Not that dysentery is fun, but without your appendix you could survive it only to die of starvation two months later, even if you were eating your fill.

      • Patman15 says:

I see we either have a med student or someone who really loves one’s fun facts.

I can’t say I’d blame you for the latter. ^.^

    • Roto13 says:

An appendix monster with the ability to explode and spray poison everywhere would be fun.

  2. Sassafras says:

Damn, good luck on getting a new job or other means of support, Magnolia. I’ve been there, believe me.

  3. Raven says:

    She said… he…

    Now I can’t even pretend he’s female ._.

Oh well. This comic is still awesome, and good luck on getting a new job!

  4. Beef Wellington says:

Good luck with your future employment endeavors, all of us ar wishing the best!

  5. smjjames says:

Ouch, sorry to hear about that Magnolia.

Anyways, sounds like Nancy has lots of useful info that the kids could use, also spare Ayo from getting exhausted too much by trying to do it the way they did it.

Hopefully Nancy realizes that they are kids like her (Although she is at least 16 while they are 12-14 or so) and that they share a common enemy.

  6. So Red’s male? Now THAT’s a twist.

    • hjlblhjbkj says:

The monsters have no real gender. They are whatever gender you want them to be. :)

      • kishimobot says:

Would the monster be gendered if it came from reproductive organs…?

Actually, I don’t really want to think about what kind of monster that would be :/
        I think this is a PG13 comic

  7. Diloolie says:

    That last panel is perfection.

  8. Anon says:

Abel and Nancy are pretty close in panel 1, that totally means they’re together! Thanks for the new ship and good luck on your job search.

  9. Dave says:

I just noticed that Nancy refers to her monster as “him”. Is she the only one whose monster is a different gender from herself, or no?

Also, my condolences about the lost job. Good luck with the commissions!

    • A.J. says:

No. The director of SHELL referred to his skin monster as a “she”.

    • Sassafras says:

Rjinder, the creepy scientist from Shell, refers to his skin monster as “she”.

      • gangler says:

Though Rjinder doesn’t seem to view his monster as anything thinking or alive. His skin monster may be a she the same way ships are shes.

    • Macaroon says:

The confusing bit is that she referred to Red as an “it” in one of her early appearances. However, that was a bonus comic and therefore noncanon, so I’m guessing that Magnolia was still in the process of developing the character at that point.

  10. hjlblhjbkj says:

    First panel – *we’re

    Sorry :P

  11. dfjgllsdfjg says:

This is kinda random, but… do Julie and West go to the same school as Bina? I’ve been wondering about this for a while now.

    • Beef Wellington says:

I believe it has been stated that they do all go to the same school, since it would be easier for them to meet up/stay in contact with each other.

Don’t take my word on that, though. I no doubt got some details and information wrong.

  12. Sam says:

Haha, I love Red’s little “Yeah, I’m awesome” face in panel four.

  13. Macaroon says:

That’s really a bummer about your job, Magnolia. I’m a nanny myself, so I can understand how easy it is to get attached to a kid. I encourage you to get the most out of the time you have left, and best wishes for your future employment. :-)

  14. Deb says:

    Good luck, Magnolia!

  15. spudwalt says:

One thing I’ve kinda wondered for a while — does Ayo pulsate at all? She just seems like the sort of thing that would always pulsate slightly, what with being a heart and all.

Good luck finding a new job!

  16. Bonnie says:

Best of luck in the job search!

  17. Trinety says:

Bina and West should be coming back, now!! Yay! It was nice to see Abel and Julie finally work out some of their differences, though. There’s not a complete trust, but I think this team is just going to get a little closer now that they don’t hate each other!

  18. Potato nom nom says:

Good luck with employment. I hope you get enough custom work to tide you over!

  19. Pete says:

My condolences; I was out of work for quite awhile and now only underemployed. It’s rough out there, but it’s obvious you’ve got plenty of talent and skill, and it should be recognized. :D
