Page 9, Chapter 6

You all pretty much guessed this on Wednesday, but the characters have to catch up to you.

Starslip was one of my favorite comics, and it ended today. You should go read it.

Well that’s not the biggest deal, the baby is probably long gone with a responsible parent. Given what we know, the vocal chord monster should survive as long as the baby is fine. That child would grow up mute, which isn’t unheard of. But someone has to take care of this little grub!

  2. Godbot says:

At least turn its volume down. God.

  3. Dart says:

Julie’s fricken face. <3 She just lets every emotion take over.

  4. Quetzalrofl says:

This is so tragic I can’t even make a “how is babby formed” joke. :(

  5. Omnithea says:

Congrats. You’ve found the only part of a missing baby that’s easy to find. Somebody find a nose monster quick before the trail gets cold.

    • smjjames says:

Maybe Rixis? He isn’t a nose monster, but given that he is one of the sense organs, he seems to have a heightened sense of smell and hearing.

  6. Lauren says:

Man, that must have hurt for the baby when the monster was…

    *eyes widen in horror*

    • Angela says:

Oh… oh wow. It’s so small… This is intense. I can’t wait to see what happens with this little guy.

      • smjjames says:

Maybe it’s small because the host is so young?

Still, I’m wondering where the baby is and if he or she is okay and not abandoned in the woods or something

  7. Jade says:

Oh man, thinking about the repercussions for the baby! I half horror-stricken, half curious as heck.

  8. Loki says:

I’m /still/ wondering where this comic as a whole is going.
I mean, stuff keeps happening; is it going to lead anywhere? I keep forseeing the moment where they all go “welp, looks like we gotta live with this part of ourselves secretly (except between each other) for the rest of our lives”, and then the comic ends.

    • Magnolia says:

I’m not sure what exactly you’re looking for. I’ve done my best to establish the situation, the characters’ goals, and the stakes against them.

      • Loki says:

Hmm. I think I’ve been reasoning that the kids won’t storm ARMA, but will instead keep a low profile – and that as a result, ARMA won’t find them (nor the police, community, etc). At this point, my prediction goes “well, I don’t see what could happen if both those conditions were met”. Although I doubt that’s the direction the comic will go, so I kind of disregard that prediction – and another hasn’t really taken its place.
My failure to come up with a prediction that seems satisfyingly-likely is the heart of this, I guess. It’s kind of exciting, and kind of frustrating – but all in all, not a big concern.

    • John says:

I think you are mistaking monster pulse for a super depressing indie film with no point. There are plenty of places the comic could go.

  9. Moofin says:

The pacing, especially in the top row, is great.

  10. Rhodin says:

A vocal chord monster would be the ultimate baby monitor. Unlimited range and no batteries.

  11. VeryTired says:

Am I the only one DISTURBED by this latest development? I mean, right now, there’s a baby who’s crying and no one can hear it…. A BABY people. Yes, I know it’s fictional but it’s STILL A BABY! DX

    • Katrika says:

Nope, I’m intensely disturbed. Babies cry for a REASON, and if the baby ISN’T with their parent(s) but abandoned in the woods somewhere, and can’t be pinpointed by their voice… Even if they /are/ with their parent(s), it’s still worrying, although not as life-and-death.

      • VeryTired says:

I don’t think the baby is in the woods, because monsters can go two and fro of their own choosing but putting that to the side for a moment, what about the baby? I mean, it’s trying to tell its parents what it needs and it can’t… Christ. That poor kid.
I can’t imagine what the parents are going through. One day their baby can cry and now it can’t? How f***** up are they right now?

  12. smallhound says:

Band together now, look after zee baby!

  13. D&D says:

Aw, it’s such a cute little monster. Looks like a pug mixed with a grub. D’awww. Although I worry about a baby with no vocal cords being separate from that little guy. How far apart are they, I wonder?
